Cheryl's Story: How a simple set of steps helped restore safety, dignity and hope

Cheryl has already faced cancer - twice. That kind of resilience is rare, and comes at a cost that goes far beyond the physical toll of treatment. As medical bills accumulated and financial pressure mounted, Cheryl and her husband made the heartbreaking decision to leave their home and move to a camper as their mortgage payments were becoming too heavy to carry.

The new simpler set up lacked sturdy stairs and a handrail which made entering her home difficult during her recovery. She remembered seeing a news story about The Butterfly Foundation and applied asking us for help with steps and a handrail to her home. Safe access to our front doors is something many of us take for granted.

"I want to thank The Butterfly Foundation for granting my wish and making my journey so much easier." - Cheryl H.

The butterfly is symbolic to us in many ways. It's part of our philosophy and the way we operate: just as a butterfly moves quietly from flower to flower carrying pollen that helps things grow and bloom, The Butterfly Foundation believes that even small acts of help can set powerful things in motion. This time it was stairs and a handrail which was critical to Cheryl's daily independence and safety.

We are grateful to the donors, volunteers, and community members who make stories like Chery's possible. Every contribution, large or small, helps us continue pollinating hope for Coloradans who need it most.
