Ashley's Story: Rallying around a young family when they needed it most

Becoming a parent is one of life's greatest joys — but for Ashley and her husband, Colin, those first days also brought fear and uncertainty no family ever plans for. Their newborn son was diagnosed with Hydronephrosis, a kidney disorder that causes swelling when urine is unable to drain properly from the kidney. What followed was a long hospital stay, multiple surgeries, and a financial reality that threatened to overwhelm an already exhausted young family.

Her husband works full-time as a craftsman and Ashley works part-time. Though they have health insurance thousands of dollars in medical bills began to accumulate, and everyday expenses like utilities and rent didn't stop because their baby was sick. They didn't qualify for government assistance, but that didn't make their need any less real.

"We are so thankful for The Butterfly Foundation for helping us during such a scary and exhausting time. Them helping us brought down our stress and anxiety and let us focus on our baby and his recovery." - Ashley B.

The Butterfly Foundation stepped in with rental assistance and help covering their utility bills — practical support that gave this family the financial footing to focus on their son's care and recovery.

The butterfly is symbolic to us in many ways. Just as a butterfly moves quietly from flower to flower carrying pollen that helps things grow and bloom, The Butterfly Foundation believes that even small acts of help can set powerful things in motion. This time, it was keeping the lights on and a roof overhead for a family whose hands were already full with love and worry.

We are grateful to the donors, volunteers, and community members who make stories like Ashley's possible. Every contribution, large or small, helps us continue pollinating hope for Coloradans who need it most.
