Honoring Dan’s Legacy of Love and Strength
Some people have a way of leaving every heart better than they found it — and Dan, from Castle Rock, was one of them. For ten years, he was a dedicated member of the construction company he worked for, a devoted husband, and a loving father of three. His sudden passing at just 38 years old, has left an unfillable void in the lives of all who knew him.
What began as a normal Sunday with his wife Kaity and their kids — breakfast, laughter, errands — turned tragic when Dan suddenly fell ill in the car and was rushed to the Emergency Room. Doctors discovered a bulge in his aorta that ruptured hours later. Despite every effort, Dan passed that evening.
Dan and Kaity had known each other since they were 18. Together they built a beautiful life and raised their children. Dan worked full time at his construction job and Kaity took care of the kids the youngest in preschool. Now Kaity was facing the unimaginable and sudden loss of her husband, caring for her kids and helping them navigate their grief was devastating. The Butterfly Foundation was able to cover their immediate needs of covering one month of their mortgage and utilities ($3,221.82) giving Kaity time to find her footing and re-enter the workforce.
Dan’s story reminds us how fragile life is — and how powerful love and community can be. To honor him is to live with the same warmth, kindness, and generosity he shared with everyone around him.
