When Love Steps In: Shawanda’s Story
Late one night, Shawanda an empty nester — received an urgent call from the DHS. Her Godchildren were in need of an immediate home and care and had nowhere else to turn.
Shawanda didn’t hesitate. She opened her heart and her home, instantly becoming a full-time caregiver once again. To give the children the stability, safety, and love they needed, she reduced her hours at a job she cherished — working with adults with special needs.
The sudden transition brought new challenges and responsibilities: enrolling the kids in school, catching them up on academics, managing meals, routines, and healing — all while trying to cover the rising costs of monthly expenses on a reduced income.
That’s where The Butterfly Foundation came in. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to step in with a grant to help cover Shawanda’s most urgent needs: utility bills, car and insurance payments, etc. This support gave her the breathing room to focus on what mattered most — giving the children the consistency, care, and attention they deserve.
Because of this community, Shawanda didn’t have to walk this journey alone. Thank you for your support and helping us lift others as they rise from hardships. 🦋
